An Association of Collaborative Spaces Building Towards a Spacefaring Civilization.
Managed a $500k, 2 year DARPA grant to get hackerspaces/makerspaces involved in space related activities. The second year we signed a Space Act Agreement (SAA) with NASA to collaborate on the Asteroid Grand Challenge. We funded about 20 subcontracts valued between $5000-20,000 with companies and individuals associated with makerspaces.

SPAWAR Grant N652361211003 was issued in September 2012 to Maui Makers LLC on behalf of DARPA to initiate the Hackerspace Space Program (HSP). We are conducting this project under the name SpaceGAMBIT (GAMBIT = Global Alliance of Makers Building Interstellar Technology)
The HSP’s main objectives per the Performance Work Statement (PWS) are:
- Support and fund Hackerspaces to function as local community hubs.
- Carry out research and public engagement activities.
- Conduct longterm strategic foresight and planning to coordinate largescale international projects with the local hubs
- Identify and expand areas of mutual relevance between terrestrial and space activities.
- Submit an annual status report at 12 and 24 months, containing a balance sheet, cash flow statement, and list of specific investments/projects carried out by the HSP organization.
